OUR STORY

TURNING EXPERIENCE INTO PURPOSE.

The Brendan Wiredu Foundation was born from a simple belief: young people deserve access to the same guidance, encouragement and opportunities that can help change the direction of a life.

ORIGIN & PURPOSE

Why The Foundation Exists

Growing up in East London and coming from a Ghanaian background, Brendan Wiredu experienced first-hand the importance of community, mentorship and opportunity. His journey through professional football showed him that talent is only part

of the equation. Without the right mentors keeping him accountable and focused during pivotal youth years, the path could easily have taken a

different turn. The Foundation exists to pass those lessons forward - using sport and lived experience to help young people make positive choices, develop confidence and see greater possibilities for their future.

THE REAL EQUATION

GUIDANCE

Insight from people who have walked the path.

03

The strength to recover from adversity and setbacks.

02

DISCIPLINE

Habits and focus applied consistently every day.

04

THE FOUNDER

MEET BRENDAN WIREDU

Turning Professional Experience Into Community Purpose Born and raised in East London with Ghanaian heritage, Brendan Wiredu has built his career through the English professional football system.

After progressing through the Charlton Athletic academy, Brendan gained senior experience through spells including Bromley and Colchester United before establishing himself at Fleetwood Town and later Plymouth Argyle. In August 2026, he joined Salford City.

But his journey has never been only about football. Throughout his career, Brendan has consistently invested time in community initiatives, school visits, mentoring and youth engagement. His commitment was formally recognised with consecutive Community Player of the Year honours.

TURNING EXPERIENCE INTO PURPOSE

Brendan understands that success rarely follows a straight line. The challenges, setbacks and opportunities he experienced throughout his own journey reinforced the importance of having the right people around you. The Foundation is his way of helping the next generation access that support.

FOUNDATION PHILOSOPHY

What We Stand For

Every programme and partnership is guided by these five unyielding commitments.

01

OPPORTUNITY

Every young person should have the opportunity to discover what they are capable of regardless of background or postal code.

02

INCLUSION

We want young people from different backgrounds and circumstances to feel welcomed, valued and supported.

03

DEVELOPMENT

Sport is a starting point for developing confidence, discipline, resilience and life skills that last a lifetime.

04

COMMUNITY

Positive change happens when people, organisations, schools and local leaders work together toward a unified purpose.

LOOKING AHEAD

Our Vision

We want to build a Foundation that creates lasting opportunities for young people in England and Ghana.

As the Foundation grows, we aim to develop more sports programmes, mentoring opportunities, community initiatives and partnerships that help young people build brighter futures.
